Did you take the oral contraceptives Yaz or Yasmin and then experienced blood clots (pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction) or gallbladder disease / removal. If yes, a $9,050,000 class action settlement may affect you.

In order to qualify for compensation, you must:
1. be a Canadian resident;
2. have been prescribed and ingested Yasmin between December 10, 2004 up until November 30, 2011 (if you reside in Ontario or Quebec) or up until October 4, 2016 (if you reside anywhere else in Canada);
3. were prescribed and ingested Yaz between January 6, 2009 up until November 30, 2011 (if you reside in Ontario or Quebec) or up until October 4, 2016 (if you reside anywhere else in Canada); and
4. were subsequently diagnosed with arterial thromboembolism, venous thromboembolism, and/or gallbladder disease.
You may also qualify for compensation if you are a direct heir of a deceased person who is entitled to compensation. In addition, if you are a spouse, common law spouse, child, grandchild, parent, brother, or sister of eligible claimant, you may be able to receive an extra 10% of compensation.
The amount that will be paid to eligible claimants not be known until after the end of the claims period. However, the maximum amounts are:
- Venous thromboembolism (including pulmonary embolism and/or deep vein thrombosis): $9,000
- Arterial thromboembolism (including ischemic stroke and/or myocardial infarction): $4,500
- Gallbladder: $500
- Death associated with venous thromboembolism: $13,500
- Death associated with arterial thromboembolism: $11,250
- Family member: 10% of the amount given to the primary claim
